Interswitch Job Shadowing Chronicles: The Journey Begins

Hi there!

It’s been an interesting journey so far, a bit slow but I look forward to when it picks up!

The first few weeks were quite familiar as I started on my assigned courses for the Risk Management track. The focus was squarely on laying the groundwork for effective risk identification, analysis, and the formulation of mitigation plans. Leveraging my existing knowledge, I’ve learned new perspectives and methodologies that promise to enhance my approach to risk management.

One of my favorite things about cybersecurity is how everything is literally intertwined and you can take 10 different courses on 1 topic and there will always be new information you didn’t know before.

A highlight of the courses was the thorough exploration of risk elements, including the difference between upside and downside risks, this was my first time coming across those terms. Furthermore, delving into the psychology of risk perception provided great insights into the human factor influencing risk management decisions. Additionally, the introduction to strategies such as ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Possible) emphasized the importance of adopting proactive measures to mitigate potential threats effectively.

Learning new terms like risk perception, ALARP and also how to calculate upside and downside risks when calculating Qualitative risks was a highlight for me. Getting to learn about these new things honestly got me excited and helped me understand even better the importance of continuous learning in this field.

I eagerly anticipate the forthcoming live sessions and I am ready to confront the challenges that lie ahead with confidence and determination. Here’s to embracing the journey, fortified with knowledge and enthusiasm, as I navigate the intricacies of risk management.

Until next time, find me where the good guys are!
